TATERS

The cat video and deep space optical communications featured an orange tabby cat named Taters chasing a laser pointer. It was successfully transmitted to Earth on December 11, 2023, by NASA's Deep Space Optical Communication (DSOC) experiment.

What's CMB?

The Cosmic Microwave Background is the oldest light in the universe and one of the most important pieces of evidence for the Big Bang Theory. It is essentially the faint, uniform afterglow of the universe creation.

CAT LASER SIGNAL

While the DSOC experiment itself did not involve the CMB, the technology it demonstrated (high-bandwidth deep space communication) is crucial for the kind of future mission that do study the CMB.

WHY CATS RULE THE INTERNET

The phenomenon of cat domination on the internet is a well-studied subject, and while they may not top every single search metric today (dogs often lead in general pet searches) , cats are universally recognized as internet royalty and hold incredible viral power.
